Tremain, master of randomness

The Priest Tremain not only an unique character because of his parlance and voice, but also the sole being, who gave us a clue concerning the random generation of removed & alternate Quests:
By being the one, who gives you the Fleshdoom and the Lazarus Quests, one saw oneself confronted with a paradox, since how should he be able to mention the one about Lazarus, which is the next to last quest of the game, when he already had to face his death while holding Fleshdoom's blade Shadowfang? (Statements, which do prove, that Tremain passes away at that specific point are: Cain's Fleshdoom-related Speech & Pepin's gossip concerning the holy man)

So how to solve this one? Well, if these events aren't to appear together in any created game no such problem ever arises, right?
A thought, which rules out another impossibility of Retail Diablo the Lazarus Quest isn't always a part of the quest-road to Diablo.
Finally is there any proof for that? Proof?! No! Supportive Points?! Yes, three to be precise:

1) Some Quests can't be bestowed upon you in a single game, so this wouldn't be a novelty.

2) Adding a paradox to a game, when its existence isn't a necessity isn't the most likely action a developer would take.

3) When you take a closer look at Pepin's gossip you'll notice the usage of the phrase "some day", which serves as a hint at the random character of that event (= Tremain's Death). So it may not happen in this exact game, but in another one it will.

Gossip regarding Tremain
image Adria:
Faith is absolute belief in the unseen. The priest Tremain is from a holy order long asleep in this land. He keeps a promise and a charge issued ages ago and sustains a union with realms that even my vision cannot reach. He knows much, but not as much as he believes.
image Cain:
Tremain is an occasional visitor to our town, and seems to have little problem coming and going. It is strange how at times anyone that tries to leave Tristram is hunted down and slain by the cloaked rides, and at other times it is a simple matter to leave. I think that it is that uncertain fear that keeps some of us here. But we are glad for Tremain's bravery and luck in keeping some contact with the rest of the kingdom.
image Farnham:
I haven't ever see a priest around here. If I did I'd kick him right in the *BBBBUUURRRPPP* Can't even keep a church free of those Hell spawn - bastards. What good are they, those holy men? Liars! Liars!
image Gillian:
I really don't know much about the priest Tremain. He never visits the tavern, preferring to keep to the company of Pepin and Cain. Perhaps it is because they, too, have more scholarly pursuits.
image Griswold:
The priest Tremain. *Griswold Noise* He's a solitary fellow who has no time for most of us. He seems to prefer the company of Pepin or Cain. Ah, that's fine by me. I respect his passion and his commitment to his order, but I've no time for his prattling.
image Ogden:
The priest Tremain is a bit of a mystery. He certainly never stays here, and he often comes and goes to many of the nearby towns.
image Pepin:
His Holiness is a wondrous man of great knowledge and understanding. He has shown me many cures for rare and deadly diseases. He brings me books and reagents for my work whenever he can. But I fear that he may some day take on a task(=ridding the world of Shadowfang) that is too great even for him[which means that his life will be claimed in order to achieve this goal].
image Wirt:
Yeah, Tremain. He gets around, doesn't he? Or haven't you heard? My friends in some of the other towns say that he passes through. Picking up some books here, a pinch of bat claw there. Never seems to have the kind of problems most do getting in and out of Tristram, that's for sure.

Fleshdoom, Wielder of Shadowfang
Trigger: Tremain the Priest
Gist: Defeat Fleshdoom and destroy the demonblade Shadowfang at the Hellforge
Reward: Unknown
Additional Information:
This quests consists of two parts:

  1. Hunting down Fleshdoom, who's some sort of demon and is to be encountered at Level 13 or 14 (Hell) read Tremain's introductional speech
  2. Destroying (at the Hellforge[you may encounter a guard or several traps here]) the demonblade Shadowfang, which was wielded + later on dropped by Fleshdoom
and which triggers Tremain's 2nd speech if it isn't placed in the inventory + taken to this representative of the church (it's at least assumable, that you can't take the blade with you until you've listened to Tremain for the 2nd time).
Furthermore this demonic weapon corrupts the hero, when he dares to equip it (as Tremain informs us doesn't mean, that it's possible to equip it at all).
Finally Shadowfang falls back into the hands of the hero after Tremain fails to, as he put it, "end its dark evil", a failure, which eventually got him consumed/killed by it.

[The Hellforge itself should be located one level deeper to achieve some sort of challenge, so 14 or 15 comes to mind]
image Tremain:
I have had a most disturbing experience that I must share with you, my friend. Earlier that day I was called upon to help one of the men that escaped from the labyrinth. He was deranged, violent, and kept lashing out at all of those, who tried to calm him. I suspected that he was possessed by some sort of demonic entity and so began to drive the evil from within him. After many hours I was able to exorcise a demon who called himself Fleshdoom, but the hellion fled into the labyrinth. You may think that I am mad, but after speaking with the man and battling with Fleshdoom I believe that the labyrinth has somehow become a gateway to the underworld. As you descend deeper you may find yourself upon the doorstep of hell itself(What we do learn by this, is that the character can't have reached the Hell-levels already, so the quest should be triggered, when you're about to catch sight of them at level 12). Finally, the man who was possessed retained memories of an ancient demonblade named Shadowfang. If you find [the] demon Fleshdoom, beware this foul sword. While I fear the dangers below grow even greater, you must find Fleshdoom and slay him. Bring the sword to me and I can destroy it, but do not wield it for its power can corrupt absolutely.

Fleshdoom's demise is a great good to the world, yet Shadowfang remains! It must be found and destroyed! Do not attempt to use the demonblade, champion. It will corrupt and madden any mortal who wields it. I alone can end its dark evil.

Light be praised! You found the cursed demonblade! Only its destruction can ensure the safety of us all! Wait, what treachery is this? Ow! It burns! Hellfire...consuming me! You must take this to the Hellforge and cast it in before a *GASP!* (howls) Nooo!!!!!!! (trails off)
image Adria:
You must be ever watchful, for Fleshdoom is an enemy, who is both cruel and quick. His ebon blade is composed of the essence of evil. If you can destroy both of them, it would do much to weaken his dark master.
image Cain:
The priest Tremain is a holy man from an ancient order. Their dealings with the evil forces at work are well respected and well documented. I too have heard legends that speak of a cursed demonblade called Shadowfang. It is said to consume the tortured souls of its victims. These souls are trapped within its ebon blade and augment its unholy power. I have also read of a great Hellforge where even the mightiest weapon could be created or destroyed. Tread carefully when dealing with Shadowfang and its master lest you be drawn into the sword as well.
image Farnham:
You're gonna hunt down a demon, is that what you said? I know I didn't hear that, because nobody hunts down demons. No, nobody!
image Gillian:
I heard that the priest Tremain was going to perform an exorcism, but I didn't go. I don't see why we all have to spend every moment captive to what is lurking underneath our town. I know that many have died at the hands of these monsters, but we need to try to go on. I know that you have come here to free Tristram from the clutches of darkness, and I hope that one day we can live in peace again.
image Griswold:
Ah, you speak of an ancient and evil weapon. Tread lightly in this area, for the legends of Shadowfang are as black as a moonless winter night. Crafted within the Hellforge, Shadowfang can rend the very soul from whoever it strikes. *Griswold noise* I do not envy you if it is in your mind to defeat the one who wields it. May light protect you, brave hero.
image Ogden:
I saw the exorcism. It was incredible how Tremain drove the evil spirit from that man's racked and tortured body. I pray that something that horrific never happens to anyone here ever again.
image Pepin:
I was asked to assist in the exorcism. My skills were able to ease the poor man's suffering as Tremain drove the demon from his body. While I was treating him for an exceptionally high fever, he spoke of a place of searing heat. The tortured fellow cried out about Hell and falling into a pit of flame. I could not make any sense of it, and thankfully he soon recovered.
image Wirt:
I don't know who this Fleshdoom is, but I have heard rumors of an ebon blade that cleaves a soul from the body. Even I would not try to sell that thing, no matter what the profit. If you find it, you should do what Tremain says and destroy it as quickly as possible.
image Player Character:
-)I can see why they fear this weapon.(Shadowfang)
-)This blade must be destroyed.(Shadowfang)
