The map of the Stars |
This version of this quest shows that the Lost Treasure & the Map of the Stars quests used to be one quest
instead of two separated ones.
Note:
The speeches of Wirt & Cain follow right after each other within the code and there's no other related speech
findable, that's why they "must" be a part of the same quest. Also take a closer look at Cain's speech, since as
we can see in this version of his speech the purpose of the map wasn't to show you when Diablo is at his full power
but when he's able to open a full gate to the mortal realm to let loose his armies on it.
|
 |
Wirt:
Damn...Where is that map. Dad said it was between the rock and the tree before the bridge. It should be right h-
Oh! Hi, uh, didn't see ya there, uh.
|
 |
Cain:
What have we here? A map. hmmm...This bodes of great ill. You must work quickly now! Diablo readies his armies
for impending attack. Take back this map and check it often. When the two stars align, Diablo will complete
the final ritual necessary to open a full gate into our world. Our only hope is that you stop him before this
confluence. Go now! And Hurry!
We have very little time. I sense Diablo's power building... |
Note: As we can clearly see here there's no such thing as a final speech no "Oh no" or
"Oh yes" statement, which makes it a necessity for this quest to be continued by another one, that's why the
following two scenarios were made up:
1) The Lazarus Quest takes in (to satisfy ones hunger for being served answers for the 'how'-, 'why'- etc.-
questions one needs to go to the mentioned quest in the quest section).
2) The concept for the Beta Diablo Quest is as much a mystery as how both the results of the Map of Stars Quest
were illustrated
Diablo: The only thing, that is safe to assume is, that Cain would have shared the additional infos on the ultimate
enemy, but what he could have told us is known only to a Developer.
Map of the Stars: theories for the positive and negative outcome (mentioned movies are at least non-available, but
could also be non-existent):
a) You do get to Diablo in time and thereby stop him from wreaking havoc on earth via his servants and are therefore
allowed to finish an easier and non-accompanied variant of him off { Why do we only get to meet him you may
ask...well to see that unraveled one needs to take a closer look at the fact, that he needs to create a portal for
his serfs to reach "men's" realm: What does that really mean? They need to be transferred from there via portal to
the plane of those being gifted with free will? Where's the ritual taking place? First of all the hell-levels as
well as the creatures, that you encounter there, do not represent hell and it's inhabitants, so venturing through
level 13-16, means still staying on familiar ground, more precisely mortal realm. [The background-story presented in
the manual clearly points out, that the hell-levels' monstrosities are Albrecht's brought-to-life nightmares, even
though the prince isn't yet of importance, as he's not integrated, the idea surely has existed in some alternate way
before, since bringing in the King's son just adds to the level of detail and nothing more than that (a dramatic
change from Beta's to Retail's background-story would mark a redesign-phase in the middle of the creation-process
and that is everything but likely, right?)
Regarding the levels:
1) No Npc ever calls them Hell
2) The historical books (in-game) do tell us, that the Prime
Evils were banished to earth and the Lord of Terror, eventually was buried under a cathedral, once he became the
prisoner of the soulstone (again a non-active circumstances)
Furthermore the third one among the Prime Evils is preparing the crucial blow to mankind from "17 levels" below the
cathedral (did I mention that Beta's Lazarus provides one with quite a lot of answers? ;) )]
Finally, by not willingly being situated at this earthly location Diablo's intention clearly is to bring in the
forces of his realm, the burning hells}
An ending-video, which is different from the Retail's one might have occurred, one, in which you actually
end up being the winner, as we've still the other outcome left, to get ourselves into some kind of diablo-possessed
state of mind.
b) You do not make in time, that's why the slaves to his will do set foot on the plane, posing a threat, which goes
easily beyond men's comprehension. But even in the darkest of hours there is hope, so you can still end this
madness, although Diablo is now heavily guarded and possibly far more powerful than before {it's imaginable, that
you might meet the more monsters the later you arrive and that some respawning is happening until the Dark Lord
falls [a code, that enabled the reappearing of enemies was intended as a shrine-effect (as it wasn't integrated we
do not know whether it worked or not), so maybe it would have been used here as well.]} Again you're victorious, but
as you've failed to achieve the first part of the main goal (= stop & kill Diablo), a different video could have been
shown to you. |
